Megan Gillette, Owner and Managing Broker

Gillette was born in Santa Cruz, CA and raised in Urbana. She received her real estate license in 2008 and has been investing in local real estate since 2005, founding two property holding companies and a property management company along the way. Additionally, she has led a graphic design business, an events company, and a home decor & design store that supported local, female artisans during the pandemic. From 2003–2015, Gillette worked as a Senior Graphic & Web designer for Wolfram Research.

Gillette has held various community leadership positions. Her positions have included: Board Member of Common Ground Food Coop; Founding Member of the CU Downtown Independent Volunteer Association; Advisory Board Member of The CUDO (C-U Design Organization); Commissioner of the public mural in Lincoln Square by renowned artist and University of Illinois alumnus Justus Rowe; venue host of the first Queer Prom with Uniting Pride of Champaign County, and mentor to many female entrepreneurs since 2008.

Her upbringing, entrepreneurial pursuits, and role as mother to three have rooted her deeply in the Champaign-Urbana community. As the new leader of Beringer Realty, she will ensure the company reflects what she loves most about living in Champaign-Urbana: inclusivity, vibrancy, and possibility.

Outro

I never intended to sell Real Estate (RE), much less open my own Brokerage, but I did both and I’m so glad. For thirteen years, Beringer Realty gave me a great career, wonderful friends, and a good income. At age 71, it is time for me to step aside and I am thrilled that Megan is eager to continue on.

I sort of fell into Real Estate through my coaching business, DH Initiatives. About one-third of my clients were Realtors and eventually, an opportunity opened up for me to have a more full-time role as CEO to a new franchise Brokerage several of my coaching clients started up. I loved the challenge and after a few years helping the owners build a successful RE office, I had a similar opportunity in a Pennsylvania RE Brokerage. After 2 years there, I came back to CU and started my own RE business.

My favorite parts of owning my own RE company have been the problem-solving required to give the most excellent service to my clients, the friendships I’ve made with my clients and bankers and other RE professionals, and giving newer Realtors a good start in the industry by mentoring and coaching them along.

The time is right for me to retire. I have no regrets and plenty of great memories. I’m confident in the future of Beringer Realty with Megan and her team. I’m happy I built something that will be a benefit to others, going forward.
